Primary Health Solutions, Birdsong Health Literacy Center of Excellence and EdLogics Collaborate to Advance Substance Use Education in Schools

Primary Health Solutions (PHS) and the Birdsong Health Literacy Center of Excellence (Birdsong HLCOE) have announced a new partnership to strengthen substance use education and prevention among youth. Building on PHS’s recently awarded Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant, Birdsong HLCOE will support the initiative by providing evidence-based, game-driven health education through its Rewards for Healthy Living digital learning platform.

The Rewards for Healthy Living platform is powered by EdLogics, a digital health education company dedicated to improving health literacy through interactive, gamified learning experiences that engage, educate, and empower individuals to make more informed healthcare decisions.

Through this collaboration, PHS will incorporate interactive modules focused on fentanyl safety, substance use disorder (SUD) prevention, and healthy decision-making into its school-based health centers. The platform’s engaging, reward-based learning model helps students gain and retain knowledge, reinforcing key messages about the risks and realities of substance use.

“Health literacy is a key to better health for people of all ages and starting early in life can make a difference” said George Y. Birdsong, President of the Birdsong HLCOE. “We are pleased to see the success of the Rewards for Healthy Living platform extend beyond the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, where we have seen measurable impact in helping people understand their health conditions and improve their health.”

According to Stephen Roller, President and CEO of Primary Health Solutions, “Our partnership with Birdsong and EdLogics brings trusted resources and proven strategies to the students and families we serve. Their platform has shown that people who use these resources retain the knowledge they gain, and that is exactly the kind of sustained learning we need to drive prevention.”

Roni Christopher, Executive Director of Birdsong HLCOE, emphasized the shared vision of these organizations. “Primary Health Solutions has a long history of excellence in quality, community care, and population health. We are excited to collaborate with an organization that shares our commitment to prevention and empowerment. Together, we can bring exceptional content such as our fentanyl safety and substance use modules to the students and families PHS supports. This is a meaningful partnership that builds on mutual strengths.”

“At the heart of our mission is reducing barriers, strengthening support systems, and creating healthier futures for the communities we serve,” added Roller. “Improving health literacy is essential to long-term wellness, and this partnership is another meaningful step toward driving lasting impact where it’s needed most.”

About the Partnership
The collaboration will begin in PHS’s school-based health centers, where the EdLogics digital platform will complement existing prevention and behavioral health programming. Students will engage with interactive games, quizzes, and videos that transform complex health topics into approachable, age-appropriate learning experiences. Data collected through the platform will help educators and health professionals assess student engagement and understanding over time.
