One Year of Express Dental: Expanding Access When It Matters Most

When Primary Health Solutions opened Ohio’s first Express Dental Center last year, the goal was simple: provide care for patients who couldn’t wait. One year later, one thing is clear—the need is greater than anyone expected.

Meeting Patients Where They Are

Individuals come to Express Dental most often in pain—frequently with swelling, infection or urgent dental concerns that can’t be delayed. Many come in with swelling or infection, often after delaying care due to anxiety or cost concerns. Having a place they can walk into and be seen the same day helps remove that barrier. In the past, these patients often faced delays, were given temporary solutions or had to return for care at a later time. Too often, that meant continued discomfort or not coming back at all.

Now, they have a place to go right away.

A Better Experience for Patients—and Care Teams

Before Express Dental, urgent dental needs were worked into already full schedules. Patients coming in for routine care often experienced delays, while those in pain were sometimes treated temporarily and asked to return. It wasn’t ideal for patients or for care teams managing unpredictable demand.

Today, Express Dental provides a dedicated, walk-in model that allows patients to be seen when they need it most, while also improving the experience for those receiving scheduled care. The result is a more efficient, less stressful environment for both patients and staff.

A Growing Presence in the Community

In just one year, Express Dental has become a recognized resource in the community. Patients are increasingly finding Primary Health Solutions through word-of-mouth and social media, where Express Dental is now recommended as a go-to option for immediate dental care. And because care doesn’t stop at one visit, patients are also connected to additional services including medical care, behavioral health and pharmacy through an integrated model designed to support whole-person health.

Why It Matters

Access to timely dental care remains a significant challenge for many individuals and families—especially those who rely on Medicaid, are uninsured or face transportation barriers. Left untreated, dental issues can quickly escalate, often leading patients to seek care in emergency departments where treatment is limited and costly.

In its first year, Express Dental has demonstrated just how great the need is—providing more than 3,600 patient visits and reaching thousands of individuals who may not have otherwise accessed care.

The majority of patients served come from Butler County, with the highest concentration in Hamilton and Middletown, while also reaching patients across the greater Cincinnati and Dayton regions. This broad geographic reach highlights both the local impact of Express Dental and the ongoing need for convenient, affordable dental care throughout the region.

By offering same-day, accessible dental services, Express Dental helps patients address issues earlier, avoid unnecessary emergency room visits and stay healthier overall. Local hospital partners have also noted a decrease in dental pain-related emergency visits since the program launched—an encouraging sign of its growing impact.

Looking Ahead

The first year of Express Dental has made one thing clear: access to same-day dental care is not just helpful—it’s essential. As Primary Health Solutions looks to the future, expanding walk-in dental care will remain a key part of meeting community needs and improving access across the region. vIf you’re experiencing dental pain or an urgent dental issue, Express Dental in Middletown offers walk-in, same-day care—no appointment needed.
